Hyde is a town in the Metropolitan Borough of Tameside, Manchester, England. Historically part of Cheshire, it is 5 miles northeast of Stockport, and 7.0 miles east of Manchester, and 6.3 miles west of Glossop. In the 13th century Newton Hall was present. The area formed a township of the parish of Stockport, St Mary. Its name is derived from Hide. Later it was taken to be equivalent to 120 acres . Later additions include the lychgate, boathouse by the canal, hearse house, parish rooms also various vicarages. The church has a 110ft tower clock and eight bells.
